Invitation to all Wits Alumi and Friends
Wits Australia Webinar
Guest of Honour: Dr Ali Bacher
“Memoirs of a South African Cricket Icon and Wits Medico:
Madiba, The Don, The Aussies, The Poms and more”
Please join us for an inspiring Witsie event featuring our guest of honour Dr Ali Bacher, born May 24, 1942, who led South Africa in four victorious tests against Australia in their last series before isolation. Both former South African cricket captain and legendary administrator, Ali also holds a medical degree from Wits.

It was also his untiring efforts which finally succeeded in ensuring the return of the nation to the international fold.

“Dinner with the Don”

Ali Bacher with Nelson Mandela

Much more than a batsman and captain. Ali was the indefatigable administrator who will go down as one of the most influential figures behind South Africa’s return and resurgence as a cricketing nation.

A legendary Witsie with an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Our thanks to Jonathan Shapiro, Senior Reporter at the Australian Financial Review who will be moderating the webinar.

Jonathan is a media and finance professional. He holds the 2018 Wakely for Business Journalism and is twice the recipient of Citigroup’s Journalism Award for Excellence in Financial Markets coverage.

Special thanks to our guest panellists including Dr Harry Dugmore and Des Ger
